Company Philosophy

Why?

Why start a new brewery in a country that already has so many breweries? At beginning of the eighties we, as ale lovers, were concerned about the disappearance of a lot of small and medium sized breweries with great ales. Also it was concerning us that many formerly good ales had sweetened very much under the pretence that the consumers preferences were sweet tastes and that they had come unfamiliar with bitter ales. The truth it that new techniques made it possible to use hop extracts instead of real flowers which made it easier and much cheaper to produce. Next to that the more and more industrialized brewing world was convinced that (trough some extra publicity) it was easier to sell an ale to a lot of people if the taste stayed neutral. These developments made us start something of our own as to prove that quality can only be made with the best raw materials and with respect for traditional methods.

Values

From day one, it was clear to us that this brewery had only one purpose: making the best ale possible according to our values! Our values?

1. The use of natural raw materials without using adjuvants or artificial means.
2. Working with traditional methods, without being blind for new technology. But only using these new technologies to improve quality and not to produce cheaper

From the start we also chose not to see the brewery as our source of income, because this project could not stand or fall because of commercial success or failure. A long term strategy in which everything earned is being invested back into the brewery and with only mouth to mouth publicity brought us where we are now. Like this the brewery has become stronger and has good economical possibilities, although still holding on to that same philosophy.
